Barcelona City Council has opened the selection process for its next local ombudsman, the Sindicatura de Greuges de Barcelona. The post is intended to defend the rights and freedoms of residents in the Catalan capital.

The ombudsman is an independent body that acts as a link between citizens and the local administration. Its work includes looking into complaints and helping to resolve disputes between residents and municipal services, with a focus on transparency and accountability.

The role is also meant to protect people from possible maladministration by the city council and related bodies. Cases can cover a wide range of local issues, including urban planning, public safety, social services and environmental matters.

The selection process will take place in several stages, with the aim of choosing a qualified and impartial person who can represent the interests of Barcelona’s diverse population. Once appointed, the new ombudsman will help uphold democratic principles and support better public services for residents.
