Barcelona's municipal nurseries have announced their pre-enrolment calendar for the 2026-27 academic year, with 145 new places becoming available across the city. This expansion aims to increase coverage from 66% to 71% of applications, according to current data.

Open days for the 106 municipal nurseries in Barcelona will run from 7 April to 5 May. These information sessions will primarily be in person, though some online options will also be offered, officials said.

The additional places are a result of ongoing construction and expansion projects. The future EBM Tramuntana in Sant Andreu will provide space for 104 children, while the EBM la Mar in Barceloneta will add 41 places.

New Reduced Hours Option

EBM Germanetes in Eixample will introduce two groups with reduced hours for children born in 2024 and 2025. These will be morning or afternoon sessions, alongside five full-time groups. Applications for these specific reduced-hour places must be submitted between 4 and 15 May, following a distinct pre-enrolment process detailed on the school's website.

Children eligible for enrolment must be over four months old by September 2026. The increase in capacity reflects an effort to meet growing demand for early childhood education in the city.
