Transports Metropolitans de Barcelona (TMB) will deploy a special service with up to 138 trains on its conventional lines in Barcelona for Sant Jordi, aiming to manage the expected high demand for public transport. Last year, the city's metro network recorded 2,601,062 journeys on Sant Jordi. The public transport operator plans to provide "more trains than ever" across its network, according to a statement. This includes 138 trains during peak hours and an additional 29 trains during the afternoon's off-peak hours. This increased capacity is designed to improve mobility during a day when large crowds are expected to use public transport, mirroring last year's record figures. Service increases will see Line 1 (L1) boosted by up to 42%, Line 3 (L3) by 32%, and Line 5 (L5) by 25%. In the evening, from 9pm, TMB anticipates an average of 31% more service compared to a typical weekday. TMB will also reinforce the number of customer service, security, and cleaning staff at stations expected to see the highest user numbers. ## Metro "Key" for Sant Jordi Mobility Laia Bonet, President of TMB, stated in a press release that "the metro service is key for the city's mobility during the Sant Jordi festival." She added that both metro and bus services "are very well-valued public services" among the population. While metro services are being enhanced, some bus lines will experience limitations and diversions due to the numerous activities planned for Sant Jordi. For instance, Rambla de Fabra i Puig, between Avinguda Meridiana and Plaça Virrei Amat, will be closed to traffic from 7am to 10pm. This closure will affect bus lines D40, D50, H6, V27, V29, 34, 47, 122, and 134. In the Sants neighbourhood, Carrer Creu Coberta and Carrer de Sants, between Plaça d'Espanya and Rambla Badal, will be closed to traffic. These closures will impact bus lines D20, V5, 52, and 115. ## Major Bus Disruptions in City Centre TMB has warned that the "most significant" disruptions will occur in the city centre due to a "large island" of closures around Passeig de Gràcia. According to TMB, this affected area will be located between Avinguda Diagonal and Gran Via, and the streets of Balmes and Pau Claris. The area will also extend through Portal de l'Àngel to Avinguda de la Catedral and a section of Gran de Gràcia, from Pla de Nicolau Salmerón to Carrer d'Astúries. Bus lines affected within this delimited central area include H10, V15, V17, 7, 19, 22, 24, 52, 54, 67, 114, and the red and blue routes of the Barcelona Bus Turístic. TMB advises residents and visitors planning to use public transport on Sant Jordi to check for real-time updates on affected bus lines and plan their journeys accordingly, especially when travelling through the city centre.
