Tourists visiting Vallès Oriental spent significantly more in 2025, with daily tourism spending rising by 3.2% to €55.5 per person, according to a new report from the Diputació de Barcelona. The total expenditure per person, which includes transport to the destination, accommodation, and spending within the region, reached €561.8, marking a 17.5% increase from the previous year. The region's collection from the tourist tax also saw a 9.0% rise, totalling €558,478. The largest portion of the daily spending, €36.8, was allocated to food and drink. This was followed by purchases at €8.7, internal transport at €6.3, and entertainment, leisure, and culture at €3.3, with other expenses accounting for €0.4. The report, titled 'Annual Report on Tourist Activity 2025 in Vallès Oriental' and published by the Tourism Laboratory of the Diputació de Barcelona, indicates that domestic tourism from within Spain accounted for 58.2% of all travellers and overnight stays in the area. Of these domestic visitors, 65.9% originated from Catalonia. Among international visitors, French tourists were the most common, representing 29.8% of foreign tourism, followed by Germans at 15.7%. The average length of stay for international tourists increased by 5.4%, while for domestic tourists it remained almost unchanged, with both markets showing similar durations. The typical visitor to Vallès Oriental in 2025 was a 45-year-old man, making up 66.7% of visitors. Leisure was the primary reason for visiting, cited by 48.1% of tourists, with professional reasons accounting for 32.4%. Most visitors travelled with a partner (24.9%), with family (23.0%), or alone (22.3%). ## Accommodation Trends and Occupancy Despite the increase in spending, the number of travellers to Vallès Oriental decreased by 6.5% in 2025 compared to 2024, and overnight stays fell by 4.5%. However, the average length of stay, occupancy rates in hotel establishments, and rural tourism all increased during 2025. Conversely, the average length of stay at campsites saw a decrease. The supply of accommodation in Vallès Oriental continued to expand in 2025, with a 1.4% increase in the number of establishments and a 0.4% rise in available places. Holiday rental homes (HUTs) and rural tourism properties grew, while the region saw a reduction of one hotel and one hostel. The highest accommodation availability was observed from June to August, with the lowest opening percentages occurring during the winter months, from November to February. Marketing prices for accommodation in 2025 were higher across all categories compared to the previous year. Increases ranged from 2.1% for double rooms in rural tourism to 13.4% for pitches at campsites in Vallès Oriental. ## Employment in Tourism Sector The number of businesses within the tourism sector remained largely stable between 2024 and 2025, with only a marginal change of one unit. In contrast, the number of people employed in this sector grew by 2.0%, and unemployment decreased by 6.3%. The Diputació de Barcelona stated that its work in supporting local governments across the province, including the publication of this report, aligns with Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) number 8, "Decent Work and Economic Growth," and number 11, "Sustainable Cities and Communities." These 17 SDGs were established by the United Nations General Assembly on 25 September 2015 as part of the global agenda for 2030.
