Train services on the Rodalies R4 and R8 lines are suspended on sections around Castellbisbal from Sunday 2 August until Sunday 9 August while a new electronic signalling interlocking is brought into operation at Castellbisbal station.

Passengers using the R4 between Martorell Central and Molins de Rei, or the R8 between Martorell Central and Rubí Can Vallhonrat, will need to change to replacement buses. Renfe says the road services have been timed to connect with arriving and departing trains.

Replacement buses run every 15 to 60 minutes

  • R4: Direct buses between Martorell Central and Molins de Rei will run every 15 minutes during normal rail operating hours.
  • R4 intermediate stops: Coaches calling at intermediate stations will run every 30 minutes.
  • R8: Buses between Martorell Central and Rubí Can Vallhonrat will run every 60 minutes, matching the line's usual frequency.

R4 trains will continue to run between Sant Vicenç de Calders and Martorell Central, and between Molins de Rei and Manresa. On the R8, trains will continue between Rubí Can Vallhonrat and Granollers Centre.

Castellbisbal signalling work requires the closure

The interruption is required for the introduction of Adif's new electronic interlocking at Castellbisbal. The work forms part of upgrades to rail traffic management and safety systems, according to reporting by El Periódico.

Rodalies tickets will be accepted on the replacement buses, but passengers must validate them at their departure station before boarding. Travellers whose journey combines a train and replacement bus should check timetables and plan the connection before setting off.
