Barcelona is offering a wide array of family-friendly activities, from theatre performances and puppet shows to interactive workshops and museum exhibitions. These programmes are designed to engage children and adults alike, according to local media outlet betevé.

Families can choose from various cultural events, including musical concerts and magic shows. Many venues across the city are hosting special programmes throughout May, with some extending into June and beyond.

Theatre and Live Performances

Several theatres in Barcelona are presenting shows tailored for young audiences. The Teatre Apolo will host the Pica-Pica concert on 10 May, with performances at 11am and 1pm. Sant Andreu Teatre is staging 'Forat' from 9 to 17 May, while L'Autèntica Teatre continues its run of 'Flow', 'Petit Poni', and 'Aprenem els colors i ballem' until 31 May.

Puppet shows are also a popular choice, with 'En Cu-Cut al castell encantat' at Casa dels Entremesos on 9 May and 'Pedra a pedra' at La Puntual from 1 to 10 May. Aquitània Teatre is showing 'Les aventures de la caputxeta' on Saturdays and Sundays until 31 May.

Sala Arts Teatre has a busy schedule, featuring 'La bella i la bèstia' until 23 May, 'La sireneta' until 31 May, 'Els Tres Porquets' until 24 May, and 'Aladí' until 23 May. Magic shows include 'Màgia Kids. El gran repte' by Màgic Pablo at Teatreneu until 30 May, and a general magic show at Palacio de la Magia on Saturdays at 6pm and Sundays at 12pm.

Jove Teatre Regina is presenting 'Orelles de papallona' from 9 to 24 May. For older children, the Gran Sala del Liceu will host 'Trenca-nous jazz' from 10 to 17 May, and the Sala Foyer del Liceu will offer 'Al cor del Liceu' on 30 and 31 May.

Cinema and Outdoor Activities

CaixaForum is running its 'Petits cinèfils' series, with screenings for children aged three, six, and seven on Sundays from February to June. The CCCB will also offer 'Cinema 3/99' on 30 and 31 May, featuring short films that are free to attend without prior booking.

The Barcelona Metropolitan Area (AMB) and the Barcelona Museum of Natural Sciences are organising a cycle of free activities in metropolitan parks, beaches, and rivers. In Barcelona, these activities take place at the Jardí Botànic every weekend from February to November.

The Maritime Museum is holding free workshops and activities at Plaça de l’Odissea daily from 11am to 9pm, and on weekends from 10am to 9pm. These events promote maritime culture, creativity, and environmental respect.

Museum Exhibitions and Workshops

Guided visits to the Hivernacle in Parc de la Ciutadella are available on Saturdays, Sundays, and public holidays at 11am and 5pm. These 50-minute tours are recommended for children aged nine and above and are free with a reservation. From 7 March 2026, these will be replaced by tours for the new 'Darwin Botànic' exhibition, running until 31 May.

Barcelona city has four 'Jugatecambientals' which aim to connect families with nature. These programmes are available every weekend at different locations for children aged two and above. The Museum of Natural Sciences of Barcelona, located in Parc del Fòrum, features several ongoing exhibitions and activities.

These include 'Extraterrestres', with special pieces, life-size models, and a Martian meteorite, along with related activities for children aged four and above. The museum also has 'Clik', a permanent experimentation and learning space spanning 520 square metres across three areas for children aged three and above. 'Creativity en obert' focuses on mechanics, wind, light, and balance for those aged seven and above. Families can also enjoy 'Acadèmia de dinosaures' for children aged six and above, and a commented visit to the planetarium for all ages.

The 'Niu de ciència familiar' is a free experimentation and discovery space for children aged zero to six, located in the museum's lobby. It is open on Saturday mornings and on Sunday and public holiday mornings and afternoons. Booking is required at the museum's ticket office on the day of the activity, as capacity is limited.

Other museums also offer engaging programmes. The Miró a Llapis drawing workshop at the Fundació Joan Miró will take place on 24 May 2026, at 11:30am, led by an architect illustrator for children aged six and above. The Egyptian Museum of Barcelona provides various workshops, including 'Taller de mòmies i sarcòfags' for ages six to twelve on the third Saturday of each month, and 'Descobrir els secrets de Tutankhamon' on the last Sunday.

'Les aventures d’Ani, un viatge al més enllà' is held on the second Saturday, 'Arqueòlegs per un dia' on the last Saturday, and 'Escriu com un egipci' on the second Sunday. A free scavenger hunt, suitable for children aged seven and above, helps locate lost objects in the basement by solving a chain of names, letters, and words to build a secret phrase.

L’Ideal, a digital arts centre, is moving to Montjuïc due to works at its Poblenou space. It will open a new large-format exhibition on Pompeii at Palau Victòria Eugènia from 20 March, featuring an immersive room, virtual reality, original historical objects, and replicas.
