Barcelona City Council has updated its ‘Barcelona a la butxaca’ mobile app, adding more information, improving usability and making it easier for residents to report public incidents. The relaunch was announced on 1 June 2026.

The app acts as a single access point for municipal services in Barcelona. It lets users manage procedures, check city events, and find practical information such as waste disposal guidance, weather and air quality updates, nearby municipal facilities and the tax calendar.

According to the council, the app also sends notifications about major city disruptions, including mobility changes and pollution alerts. Last year, it recorded 725,000 unique visits and more than 224,000 transactions. Public incident reports and council procedures were among the most common uses, with 60% of public incidents now reported through the app.

The redesign also improves the ‘Near Me’ section. It already showed the location of municipal facilities such as libraries, markets, community centres, cinemas and theatres, as well as post offices, dog parks, police stations, pharmacies, petrol stations and car parks. The update adds accessible play areas, drinking fountains and more detailed information on climate shelters.

Other changes include a more streamlined way to book appointments for municipal services, obtain residence certificates and make payments by bank card or Bizum. The app’s events agenda is also updated continuously and can be filtered by topic. Residents can also receive alerts about pollution episodes, emergencies, major mobility disruptions and key tax calendar dates.

The app renewal is part of the Barcelona Fàcil Plan, the council’s wider effort to make contact with the administration more agile, clearer and more accessible. The council also said it has simplified the process for families applying for municipal grants for children’s and teenagers’ extracurricular and summer activities, and plans to create a Professional Service Office to improve urban planning support.
