Police in Barcelona have arrested two men, aged 39 and 45, for allegedly selling drugs, primarily for 'chemsex' gatherings, from rented tourist flats across the city. The arrests took place on 16 April 2026.

The Mossos d'Esquadra and Guàrdia Urbana conducted a joint operation, apprehending the suspects in the Eixample and Sants-Montjuïc districts. One of the men had a history of drug trafficking, with 15 previous arrests, according to police.

The investigation, which began in May 2025, revealed that the individuals rented tourist and temporary accommodation for short stays, typically three to four days. During these periods, they used the properties as distribution points for various illicit substances.

Joint Police Investigation Uncovers Drug Network

The joint investigation team was formed after Guàrdia Urbana officers in the Eixample district arrested a man in May 2025 and seized several quantities of drugs. This initial arrest led authorities to a busy sales point operating from a flat in the district.

Coinciding with the arrests on 16 April 2026, police carried out searches at two residential properties in the Sarrià-Sant Gervasi and Sants-Montjuïc districts, as well as a storage unit in the Eixample.

Significant Drug Haul and Cash Seized

During the operation, officers seized a substantial quantity of drugs and cash. This included over 250 grams of methamphetamine, 233 grams of ketamine, 213 grams of mephedrone, more than 91 grams of ecstasy pills, 53 grams of tusi, and over 17 grams of MDMA.

Further seizures included more than 23 grams of cocaine, 346 grams of 'crystal', four litres of GHB, 19 bottles of poppers, and nine LSD pills. Police also found five precision scales, tools for manipulating and dosing substances, and €28,000 in cash.

The two arrested men were brought before judicial authorities on 18 April 2026, where they face charges related to drug trafficking. The operation highlights ongoing efforts by Catalan police to combat drug distribution networks operating within the region.
