Barcelona City Council is increasing cleaning, waste collection and security staff this summer, with the aim of keeping the city clean and safe for residents and visitors.

The plan includes extra cleaning shifts and more waste collection in areas with heavy footfall and tourist activity. The council says this is meant to deal with the higher amount of waste that usually builds up in summer.

Alongside the hygiene measures, the city is also stepping up its security presence. More local police officers will patrol popular public areas and event spaces, with the aim of deterring crime and responding quickly to incidents.

The council says residents and visitors should notice a more visible presence of city workers and security staff during the warmer months. The measures are part of its wider work to improve urban living conditions and the visitor experience in Barcelona.
