Banyoles police arrested a 45-year-old man on 10 June in connection with a knife-point robbery in the town and a separate theft from a sports pavilion in nearby Porqueres. He has a police record and faces charges of robbery with violence and intimidation, and robbery with force.
The first incident happened at around 6pm on 1 June in Banyoles. A man stole several items of clothing displayed outside a shop. The shop owner saw the theft, chased him and managed to hold him near the shop, according to police. The suspect then showed a folding knife to intimidate the victim before getting away.
Two days later, in the early hours of 3 June, police say the same man entered the Porqueres sports pavilion by climbing through an open window. He searched several rooms and took four computers and cash.
Later that morning, a citizen security patrol found the stolen computers hidden in a bag among reeds in a vacant lot near the sports facilities. The computers were recovered.
Detectives from the Banyoles police station identified the suspect during their investigation into both incidents. Officers arrested him in Banyoles on Wednesday morning, and he appeared before the duty investigating court in Girona on Thursday. For more local reporting, see our news coverage.
