More than 50 students from four education centres in Amposta, in the Terres de l'Ebre, have taken part in two projects under the Catalan government’s Culture and Education programme. The scheme links schools and cultural organisations to support learning through arts and creation.

According to Amposta councillor for education Nuria Marco, the city values “synergies between areas” and sees the programme as a way to bring art into classrooms. She also said Amposta is the first municipality outside the Barcelona metropolitan area to join the scheme, and described it as a success.

The two projects were Saltant al deliri and A ritme de J. Saltant al deliri formed part of the 17th edition of the En RESiDÈNCiA artists’ programme, while A ritme de J was part of La Paraula al Centre. Both involved schools, cultural professionals and local cultural spaces.

Saltant al deliri involved Institut Ramon Berenguer IV for the first time in En RESiDÈNCiA. The project worked with visual artist Alba G. Corral and Lo Pati, the Terres de l'Ebre Art Centre. Over the school year, students worked with the artist on a creative process that ended in an audiovisual piece presented at Lo Pati.

A ritme de J involved 5th grade pupils at Institut Escola Agustí Barberà, 6th grade pupils at Sagrat Cor school, and 1st year ESO students at Institut de Tecnificació. They worked with versadora and jota singer Imma Ripollés, known as Imma de Sopa, on Catalan language, music and oral creation through improvised jota, glosa and other forms linked to popular culture.

The final presentation of A ritme de J took place at the Octavi Ruiz auditorium of La Lira Ampostina. The Culture and Education programme is run by the Catalan government’s departments of Culture and Education and Professional Training, with the aim of strengthening links between culture and education and using arts as a tool for learning, personal development and critical thinking among children and young people.
