Amer, in Girona’s Selva region, has opened a new 9.3-kilometre circular route linking 13 historic fountains. The project, led by Amer Town Council and the Selva County Council, is designed to highlight the area’s natural and water heritage.

The works took eight weeks and had an execution budget of €38,849.64, within a total investment of €77,248.94. They included repairing fountains, cleaning nearby areas, improving paths, building stairs and planting shrubs to help the route fit into the landscape.

Safety and access have also been improved, with interpretive signage installed at 13 key points. The county says this forms part of a wider effort to strengthen heritage signage across several municipalities in Selva. For more local updates, see our news coverage.

The route also includes digital features under the Selva Sustainable Tourism Plan, or PSTD. These include QR codes with historical information, virtual reality recreations with 360-degree images and 3D content. The motorhome area has also been improved to better serve itinerant visitors.

The project is part of the Selva PSTD, which aims to shift the tourism model towards a more sustainable and balanced system. It received funding from the European Next Generation EU funds, within the Spanish Government’s Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan. More on the plan is available from the Spanish Government recovery plan and the European Commission NextGenerationEU programme.

At the presentation, Amer Mayor Maria Rosa Vila said the itinerary is “an invitation to rediscover our natural environment in a calm and respectful way, combining nature and technology to explain our identity.” Jenny Pérez, Tourism Councillor for the Selva County Council, said the work reflects the PSTD’s aim of promoting sustainable mobility and improving natural spaces while generating local wealth without harming the landscape.
