Major road improvements underway
The Catalan government has awarded the contract for a €18 million upgrade of 6.2km of the Eix de Comiols (L-512) between Pont d'Alentorn and Vall-llebrera in Artesa de Segre. The project, awarded in September 2026, will improve safety and accessibility along this mountain route. The works include reconstructing and widening the carriageway to 9 metres, with two 3.5-metre lanes and 1-metre shoulders on each side. A new bus lay-by and a pedestrian crossing will be built in Vall-llebrera.
Pont d'Alentorn bridge to be expanded
A key part of the project is the rehabilitation and widening of the Pont d'Alentorn bridge over the Segre river. The new structure will be 13 metres wide, incorporating a 2.5-metre shared footway for pedestrians and cyclists, plus safety barriers. Work will also improve safety on the viaduct over the Segues river, including new concrete parapets. The project is divided into two lots: the civil works, worth €15.6 million, and a second lot of €681,045 for signage, safety barriers and waste management. The construction period is set at 18 months, with works expected to start in 2026 and finish by mid-2028.

Broader connectivity push
This investment forms part of a wider Generalitat strategy to improve transport and digital connectivity across Alt Pirineu and Aran. Other ongoing projects include road improvements on the C-28 at the Bonaigua pass, the C-462 between Fórnols and Adraén, and the C-1311 between Pont de Montanyana and Mas de Ciutat. Rail services on the Lleida–La Pobla de Segur and R3 Hospitalet–Puigcerdà lines are also being enhanced under the 2030–2040 Rail Services Plan. Meanwhile, over 547km of public fibre-optic backbone is already deployed in the region, with more than 200km additional length under implementation, aiming to connect all 44 municipalities.
