Many shops and services across Alt Empordà will close on Friday, 1 May, for the Sant Josep public holiday. However, some supermarkets in the region will open to serve customers, with opening decisions varying by chain and location.

In Figueres, major supermarket chains such as Mercadona, Lidl, Carrefour, and Bonpreu will keep their stores in the city centre closed. Smaller, local shops might open with reduced hours, according to local reports.

Coastal and Border Openings

Coastal towns like L'Escala and Roses expect some supermarkets to open, particularly those near beaches and tourist areas. These openings aim to serve visitors during the holiday. Most other establishments in these municipalities will remain closed.

La Jonquera, due to its proximity to France and its many tourist-oriented businesses, may also see some supermarkets and shops open. These stores will cater to passing customers.

Consumers are advised to contact their usual supermarket directly to confirm opening times before travelling on the public holiday.
