Inspector Alfons Sánchez, head of the Mossos d'Esquadra Basic Police Area (ABP) in Figueres, will step down from his role this autumn after more than 16 years leading the police station.
Sánchez announced his decision during the Mossos d'Esquadra Day for the Figueres Police Region, held at the Canònica de Santa Maria de Vilabertran on Thursday. He described the event, which gathered around 250 people, as "very emotional".
A Long Tenure in Figueres
Sánchez's departure marks the end of a significant period of leadership for the local police force. His long service in Figueres has seen him oversee numerous operations and developments within the region's security framework. The announcement was made publicly at an annual ceremony that honours police work and brings together officers and local dignitaries.
