Borrassà cyclist Alexandre Lladó finished fifth in the third round of the UCI Bike Marathon World Cup in Andorra, losing the overall leader’s jersey by just 10 points. The race formed part of the Naturland Bike Show, one of the key events on the international mountain biking calendar.
Lladó’s place in the race was uncertain until days before the event because of a fall the previous weekend. He still chose to compete and defend his position at the top of the general classification, and his fifth-place finish was a strong result given the circumstances.
After the race, Lladó said he was pleased with the result, especially because he arrived affected by the injury. He added that finishing fifth in those conditions was positive, but that he always wants more and will keep working to stay at the front.
The loss of the leader’s jersey came by only 10 points. The next World Cup round is scheduled for 13 June in the Dolomites, Italy, where Lladó will try to recover the top spot. For more local cycling coverage, see our news page.
Albert Rosillo, from Avinyonet, also competed in Andorra. In the Master +40 category, he took part in the Olympic Cross Country (XCO) event of the Super Cup Massi and delivered a good performance, according to reports.
Both Lladó and Rosillo ride for the Club Ciclista Lefa Team.
