Orriols: 'Laws You Pass Are Paid by the Innocent'
Sílvia Orriols, leader of Aliança Catalana and MP in the Parliament of Catalonia, has directly blamed elected representatives for the fatal stabbing of Carles Vilajosana in Manresa, stating: “The laws you approve or fail to enforce here are paid for by innocent people outside.”

Speaking during a general policy debate on Wednesday afternoon, Orriols claimed the victim “paid with his life for the multicultural narrative you preach and impose.” She argued that current immigration and integration policies had left citizens unprotected. The 45-year-old man was killed during Manresa’s town festival after being attacked with a knife.
False Claims Spark Legal Threat
In the days following the murder, Orriols published multiple posts on social media identifying the two minors under investigation as unaccompanied foreign minors of Moroccan origin. However, subsequent reports confirmed one suspect was born in Catalonia to Moroccan parents and the other to Catalan parents, both having passed through the public education system.
The Generalitat, led by President Salvador Illa, is now considering legal action against Orriols for potential hate crime violations. Illa stated: “Whenever behaviour breaches legal boundaries and fuels hatred, the government will act.” Interior Minister Núria Parlon condemned the dissemination of false information during an ongoing investigation, calling it dangerous and irresponsible.
Political Clash Over Integration and Security
Orriols used her parliamentary speech to demand stricter penalties and systemic reform, including expulsion of foreign nationals convicted of crimes. She questioned how a country can prosper if it normalises mass arrivals of people who “will not contribute” to society, warning of growing insecurity, drug trafficking, kidnappings, and loss of community identity.
She also targeted deputies from Comuns, accusing them of hypocrisy for supporting progressive migration policies while living in affluent areas. To Jéssica Albiach, she asked: “Are you feminist or Islamist?”, a comment rebutted by fellow MP Susana Segovia, who accused Orriols of disguising Islamophobia under women’s rights rhetoric.
