In Catalonia, Vox has widened its inquiry into alleged corruption and mediation schemes to the Hard Rock project in Tarragona. The party has submitted questions to the Catalan Parliament, signed by deputy Javier Ramírez Gutiérrez, asking for clarity on possible contracts and meetings linked to the project.
The document asks whether the Catalan government knew about intermediation contracts or agreements involving commissions of 1% to 3% of the operation’s value. It also asks about possible meetings with companies including Grupo Aldesa, Idella Consulenza Strategica and Análisis Relevante.
Vox also refers to alleged mediation by former Spanish prime minister José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero, which it says was aimed at favouring a €2 billion contract award to the Chinese state construction company CRCC. The party’s questions connect that line of inquiry with the Hard Rock project and any institutional contacts around it.
The written submission asks the Generalitat whether there were undeclared lobbying or intermediation activities during the project’s processing, whether private interests influenced planning or administrative decisions, and whether the government has received judicial requests or communications from the Audiencia Nacional. It also asks if the Generalitat plans internal audits or a review of files related to Hard Rock Tarragona.
The move is part of Vox’s effort to frame the case as a Catalan issue as well as a state one, with the Hard Rock project remaining one of the most contentious urban development plans in the region. The article does not report any judicial convictions against Zapatero or any Generalitat officials.
