Amposta Town Hall has approved nearly EUR 60,000 in municipal grants for 27 local businesses under its 2025 scheme to support the opening, modernisation and innovation of local shops. For shop owners in the municipality, the immediate effect is funding for works already carried out, with grants covering up to 50% of eligible investment and capped at EUR 6,000 per establishment.
The council said the awards have helped trigger more than EUR 300,000 in private investment across the city’s commercial premises, although that total is the council’s own estimate and is not independently verified in the published documents. According to the town hall, almost 40 businesses from across the municipality applied, and 27 met the rules of the scheme.
"This line of aid is a tool to continue strengthening the competitiveness of local commerce and helping establishments adapt to new challenges," said mayor Adam Tomàs.
The councillor for Commerce and Market, Anna Tomàs, was quoted separately by the council as saying the figures showed a strong multiplier effect from public investment. The published source identifies Adam Tomàs as mayor and Anna Tomàs as the councillor, treating them as two distinct office-holders.
What the grants can pay for
The grants support improvements to commercial premises in Amposta, including refurbishment, modernisation and adaptation works. The official 2025 call published by the Ajuntament, the town hall, sets the maximum subsidy at half of the eligible investment, up to EUR 6,000 for each business.
