A series of violent shop robberies has struck the Maresme and Vallès regions near Barcelona, with three incidents reported in just four days. Two of these involved firearms, and all took place during daylight hours, according to El Caso Exprés.
On 9 May, a man of Latin American origin entered the Intecat computer store in Mataró, Maresme. He carried a large suitcase and partially obscured his face with a mask. Approaching a worker as if a regular customer, he suddenly pulled a pistol from his jacket pocket and threatened the employee. An accomplice reportedly waited outside, and the pair fled before Mossos d’Esquadra officers could apprehend them. The robbery was quick, occurring at around 10:30am, and despite the tension, no staff members were injured.
Just two days later, on 11 May, another man, a Cuban national, attempted to rob the Ortiz jewellery shop in Terrassa, Vallès Occidental. This was reported by ElCaso.com. The individual burst into the shop at closing time, before sunset, and pointed a pistol at the owner. He then struck the owner with the weapon until witnesses intervened and restrained him, allowing the Mossos to make an arrest.
Mollet del Vallès Mobile Phone Store Targeted
The following day, 12 May, the Movistar store in Mollet del Vallès was robbed. At 8pm, as the shop was closing, three masked individuals forced the sole shop assistant to reopen the shutters and let them in. The victim told El Caso Exprés that the robbers were unarmed but continuously threatened her.
The thieves stole several mobile phones, including both iPhone and Samsung models. Curiously, they did not touch the cash register. The Mossos d’Esquadra have opened investigations into all three incidents. Their work aims to clarify the facts and, in the cases of Mataró and Mollet, to find the perpetrators who remain at large.
