Valls City Council in Catalonia is continuing its multi-sport morning programmes for primary school children on non-school days, according to officials on 15 January 2026. This initiative aims to help families balance their work, family, and personal lives by offering an educational, recreational, and sporting alternative for children aged between 6 and 11 (born 2014-2019) when schools are closed.
This marks the second consecutive year these multi-sport days have run, establishing them as a key support for families in the city. The programme is a joint effort by the Department of Equality and Feminisms and the Municipal Sports Board, with help from the Alt Camp Sports Council. It also receives co-financing from the 'Temps per Cures' (Time for Care) programme.
The main goal of these days is to meet the needs of families when school is out and balancing responsibilities becomes more difficult. The initiative also highlights the importance of care, time use, and its fair distribution between women and men, promoting values such as co-responsibility. At the same time, it encourages physical activity and sport among children through age-appropriate multi-sport activities.
Upcoming Sessions and Registration Details
The 2025-2026 academic year started with two successful sessions on 10 October and 3 November 2025, which were well-received by participating families. Following the planned schedule, upcoming sessions will take place on 3 February, 27 February, and 4 May. All these events will be held at the El Fornàs Municipal Sports Centre, running from 9am to 1pm.
Registration for the 3 February session is open online from 19 January to 28 January. Places must be reserved exclusively through an online registration form or via a QR code on the activity's information poster. The cost to register is €2 per child.
These multi-sport days are funded by the 'Pla Corresponsables' (Co-responsible Plan) programme, which supports families with care tasks and promotes adults' right to personal time. In line with this, Valls City Council has previously launched other actions to help family reconciliation, such as offering childcare services during municipal events and activities.
