The Casteller Museum of Catalonia in Valls will mark International Museum Day and Night with a programme for all ages. Over the weekend of 17 and 18 May, the museum will provide free entry, family shows, and a promotion linked to the "Music Valls Va de Vins" festival.
This initiative aims to make the museum a meeting point for culture, tradition, and celebration, according to officials. Visitors can enjoy a range of activities designed to highlight the unique human towers tradition.
Weekend Celebrations in Valls
On Saturday, 17 May, as part of Museum Night, all visitors will receive an official "Music Valls Va de Vins" tasting glass. This allows them to enjoy the festival, which combines live music, local gastronomy, and regional wines.
At 5pm, the company Un Pam de Nas will present a free show called "La màgia dels castells" (The Magic of the Castells). This performance promises illusions and surprises for both children and adults. Following the show, from 7pm to 10pm, the museum will open for special evening hours, offering free self-guided tours to experience the casteller tradition.
On Sunday, 18 May, coinciding with International Museum Day, the museum will extend its usual opening hours from 10am to 6pm, with free entry throughout the day. Places for these events are limited, and visitors are encouraged to reserve their free tickets.
About the Casteller Museum of Catalonia
The Casteller Museum of Catalonia opened in 2023. It was developed with support from Valls City Council, the Government of Catalonia, Tarragona Provincial Council, and the Coordinator of Casteller Groups of Catalonia. The project created a unique and new museum and experience centre in the heart of Valls' historic centre, near Plaça del Blat, known as the 'Kilometre Zero' of the casteller tradition.
The museum allows visitors to feel and experience the emotions of the human towers and discover the values and history surrounding this tradition. Castells have over two centuries of history and are recognised as Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO.
