Two motorcyclists have died in separate road accidents in Catalonia, in Garriguella, Girona, and Polinyà, Barcelona, according to the Catalan Traffic Service (SCT).
The first incident happened on Sunday night, 24 May, on the C-252 road at kilometre 54.6 in Garriguella. A 68-year-old man from Rabós d'Empordà, Girona, died after a collision involving two cars and his motorcycle. Mossos d'Esquadra officers received the alert at 10.29pm.
Emergency services attended the scene. Five Mossos d'Esquadra patrols, two Generalitat Fire Brigade units, and two psychological support units from the Medical Emergency System (SEM) were activated. The cause of the crash is under investigation.
In a second fatal crash, Mossos d'Esquadra were alerted at 8.33am on Monday, 25 May, to a head-on collision between a car and a motorcycle on the B-142 road in Polinyà. The motorcyclist's identity has not yet been released. Three Mossos patrols, two Fire Brigade units, and three SEM units attended the scene.
The B-142 was closed in both directions after the collision. Authorities are investigating the circumstances of the crash. According to the SCT, these two deaths bring the number of people killed on Catalan roads this year to 50.
