The Tortosa government has criticised Junts per Tortosa for submitting allegations against the 2026 municipal budget, warning that the move could delay its entry into force. The budget, approved by an absolute majority on 31 March, was expected to take effect this week.

Officials in Tortosa, located in the Terres de l'Ebre region, said the allegations might postpone planned investments and policies for a few weeks. However, they affirmed that the new budget, which is set to be the highest in the city's history, will still be implemented for 2026.

Budget Approval and Delays

The municipal budget for 2026 received absolute majority approval from the Tortosa City Council on 31 March. The government had anticipated its swift implementation, allowing new investments and policies to start without delay. The unexpected allegations from Junts per Tortosa have now introduced a period of uncertainty regarding the exact start date for these initiatives.

Despite the potential for a short delay, the government remains committed to its financial plans for the coming year. They stressed that the city will have its new budget, which represents a record high for Tortosa, ensuring continued progress on local projects and services.
