Tortosa's Expoebre fair, celebrating its 80th anniversary this year, will introduce a new electric tourist train and receive a €75,000 grant from the Tarragona Provincial Council.
The new train, built by Lleida-based company Ilertren Tourist Train, is 100% electric. It evokes the old 'Carrilet' train and will complement the city's Green Circuit of the Walls project, according to officials. It will also support the upcoming reorganisation of the riverfront, which will include electric bicycle rental points.
The Tarragona Provincial Council expressed its satisfaction at collaborating with a fair that serves as a reference point across the territory. Officials stated that their participation was essential for this special anniversary edition.
Boosting Local Tourism
The introduction of the electric train aims to enhance tourism offerings in Tortosa. The Green Circuit of the Walls project seeks to connect historical sites, while the riverfront reorganisation will improve public access and leisure facilities along the Ebro River. These initiatives are part of broader efforts to promote sustainable tourism and local heritage.
Expoebre has been a significant event for Tortosa and the wider Terres de l'Ebre region for eight decades, drawing visitors and businesses. The fair often highlights local products, services, and cultural activities.
