Torredembarra will host the "Meeting 50 anys d'atletisme" (50 Years of Athletics Meeting) on 1 May at the Municipal Sports Zone Athletics Track. This event, scheduled from 10am to 1pm, celebrates the 50th anniversary of the first athletics competition organised in the town on 1 May 1976.
Around 80 athletes are expected to take part, representing the Torredembarra Athletics Club school and other clubs and schools. Competitors will range across various categories, from 'minis' to veterans, in both male and female divisions.
Celebrating Five Decades of Sport
The meeting will feature a range of athletic disciplines, including races, throwing events, and jumps. This gathering not only commemorates a historical moment for Torredembarra but also brings together current athletes from across the region.
The event is a collaborative effort, organised by the Club d’Atletisme el Roquer Torredembarra, the Tarragonès Sports Council, the Catalan Athletics Federation, and Torredembarra Town Council through its Department of Sports. This joint organisation shows the broad support for athletics in the area.
Looking ahead, the meeting aims to inspire new generations of athletes and reinforce the town's commitment to sports development. It also provides a platform for local talent to compete alongside athletes from other clubs.
