Tortosa will host the sixth Terres de l'Ebre Economic Forum on 28 May, focusing on the region's new energy model. The event, organised by Tortosa City Council and the Tortosa Chamber of Commerce, will take place at the Ferreries Civic Centre, separate from the ExpoEbre fair for the first time in years.
The forum aims to foster a collective vision for the Terres de l'Ebre's energy future. According to Tortosa mayor Mar Lleixà, the Catalan Energy and Climate Plan (PLATER) projects that by 2050, the Ebre region will produce 25% of Catalonia's wind energy and 4.6% of its photovoltaic energy, accounting for 13% of the country's total renewable energy.
Key Discussions and Speakers
The forum will cover several critical topics, including Catalonia's energy transition, the decarbonisation of industry, and regulatory changes concerning energy storage and self-consumption. Discussions will also look at integrating key technologies such as bioenergy, batteries, and waste management.
Speakers will include Anna Camp, director of the Catalan Energy Institute; Míriam Díaz, director of the Chemical Technology Unit at EURECAT; Joan Herrera, a jurist specialising in environmental and energy law; and Joaquim Daura, vice-president of the Efficient Energy Cluster of Catalonia (CEEC).
Local Energy Community Project
The Tortosa Chamber of Commerce and the City Council will also present the CEL Cambra Ebre project, a local energy community. This initiative involves nine municipalities, features 14 installations, and has 270 members. The CEL project is currently awaiting a legal procedure to allow the distributor to make it operational.
This year's forum highlights the region's commitment to meeting Catalonia's ambitious renewable energy targets and exploring sustainable energy solutions for its communities and industries.
