Minyons de Terrassa announced on Wednesday 7 October that they will attempt eight top-tier, or extra-gamma, human towers across three performances this month, beginning in El Vendrell on Sunday 11 October and ending at Girona's Sant Narcís fair on 25 October.

For Terrassa residents who take part in the group, the plan requires support at five special rehearsals at Cal Reig. The group says turnout will be decisive in building the large supporting formations needed for its most difficult structures.

An extra-gamma castell is among the most demanding categories of human tower. The group's principal target is a 3 de 10 amb folre i manilles, a three-person-wide tower reaching 10 levels, reinforced by additional supporting layers, at plaça del Vi in Girona.

Three October performances

  • Sunday 11 October, El Vendrell: for the Santa Teresa celebration, Minyons will aim for a 2 de 9 amb folre i manilles, a 5 de 9 amb folre and a pilar de 8 amb folre i manilles.
  • Sunday 18 October, Barcelona: the group will seek another extra-gamma tower at the Castellers de Sants event in plaça de Bonet i Muixí.
  • Sunday 25 October, Girona: at the Fires de Sant Narcís, Minyons will attempt the three structures planned for El Vendrell and add the 10-level tower.

If it completes that programme, the Terrassa group will have achieved its target of eight extra-gamma structures across the three events. The October programme is intended to build experience with the largest towers before the group's own annual gathering on 22 November.

Five special rehearsals at Cal Reig

Minyons has scheduled special rehearsals at Cal Reig on 8, 9, 16, 22 and 23 October. The sessions will focus on the pinyes, folres and manilles, the successive layers of people that stabilise a castell from its base upwards.

The group has named its mobilisation campaign “A Girona 538 Minyons”. The figures refer to five rehearsals, three performance days and eight extra-gamma towers, while the Girona attempt at the 10-level structure is its central goal.
