Terrassa City Council has launched a public consultation on the future of the Mercat de Sant Pere, seeking proposals to restore commercial activity, attract new stallholders and strengthen the market’s role in the Sant Pere neighbourhood.

Residents, existing traders, local businesses and people considering opening a stall can submit views through a survey open until the end of October. The process will inform a medium- and long-term plan for the market, according to reporting by El Periódico.

Consultation to shape a market roadmap

The council’s municipal Commerce and Markets Service is leading the process. It will examine the market’s current position and draw up a roadmap intended to secure its future viability.

Participants are being asked to give views on:

  • products and services currently missing from the market;
  • ways to attract new businesses and operators;
  • improvements needed to the building and its spaces; and
  • the market’s social and community role in Sant Pere.

Cardona said decisions on any transformation should be made with the broadest possible consensus among people who use and work at the market.

October session and November street event planned

The council also plans an open participatory session at the Mercat de Sant Pere in October. Advance registration will be required.

A further street activity is scheduled for Saturday 7 November on Carrer Ample, alongside the Fira del Bolet, Sant Pere’s Mushroom Fair. The council is particularly seeking input from neighbourhood associations, social, cultural and sports groups, nearby shops, commercial organisations, economic representatives and current or prospective market users.

People interested in launching a commercial activity at the market can take part in the survey before the end-of-October deadline or register for the October session at the Mercat de Sant Pere.
