Temporada Alta will stage 91 shows in Girona, Salt and seven other Catalan municipalities between 3 October and 8 December for its 35th edition. For local theatre and dance audiences, 45,436 tickets are due to go on sale on 3 September for a programme spanning 22 venues, including the new satellite location of Maçanet de la Selva.

The festival programme includes 22 world premieres, 16 international productions and 66 Catalan productions. Its €3,153,000 budget includes €800,000 from the Generalitat, Catalonia’s regional government, according to a report by russpain.com.

International theatre and dance programme

The opening production will be Has Been, a collaboration between choreographer Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui and circus artist Martin Zimmermann.

  • Needcompany will premiere Everything must change.
  • Peeping Tom will present Le salón ‘revisited’, a new version of one of its works.
  • Romeo Castellucci will stage a reinterpretation of the Faust myth.
  • Claudio Tolcachir’s The forest will feature dancer Cristiana Morganti, from the Pina Bausch company.

Guy Cassiers and actor Valérie Dréville will stage Théséz, sa vie Nouvelle, a work on memory and the reconstruction of Europe that draws on the writing of French essayist Camille de Toledo.

Brazilian director Christiane Jatahy will return with Júlia - 15 anys més tard, co-produced with Barcelona’s Teatre Lliure and featuring Júlia Genís and Moha Amazian. The Ibero-American Connection section includes La muerte del padre by Hermanos Ibarra Roa and Museo de los relámpagos by Oligor y Microscopia.

Catalan creators, music and Big Bang week

Catalan and Spanish artists on the programme include La Veronal, Mal Pelo, Baró d’Evel, Lluïsa Cunillé, Jordi Casanovas, Victoria Szpunberg, Carlota Gurt and Ramon Madaula. Mal Pelo will debut Bach en familia, while Marc Pesarck Blaï Mateu of Baró d’Evel and his father, Tortell Poltrona, will present LAB: A la recerca de ‘Qui soc?’.

The music line-up includes Pink Martini, Martirio and Eliades Ochoa, a veteran of Buena Vista Social Club. Spanish theatre and dance entries include Pablo Messiez’s La forma humana and Personas, lugares y cosas, Pablo Remón and Javier Cámara’s Verborrea, Rocío Molina’s Calentamiento and Lolita Flores in Poncia.

Big Bang, Temporada Alta’s contemporary-creation week, will take place from 19 to 22 November. It will include 10 performances, events for artists, companies and programmers, and a screening of Qui som, Salvador Sunyer i Vidal’s film about Baró d’Evel.

Festival director Narcís Puig said the event has presented 2,253 performances and received 1,302,620 spectators since it began. Tickets for the 35th edition are scheduled to go on sale on 3 September.
