A teenager was injured in Barcelona early this morning after being attacked with a machete by approximately 20 youths near the April Fair, currently taking place at the Fòrum park. The incident occurred around 3:30am on Avinguda Diagonal, at the corner of Carrer de Josep Pla, according to ElCaso.com.

The group, described as Latin American youths, assaulted the victim and then fled, leaving the teenager injured with friends. Emergency services, including two ambulances from the Sistema d'Emergències Mèdiques (SEM) and four Mossos d'Esquadra patrols from the Sant Martí district, responded to the scene. Paramedics treated the minor for stab wounds, which are not life-threatening, and transported them to a hospital.

Police Search for Attackers

Before emergency services arrived, the group of youths continued along Rambla Prim, moving away from the Fòrum area. They reportedly committed further robberies and assaults on people they encountered. When Mossos d'Esquadra officers arrived, they searched the surrounding streets but could not locate the attackers, and no arrests were made.

Catalan police have started an investigation to identify the aggressors and determine the motive behind the machete attack on the minor. This incident follows another violent event in the city centre shortly before midnight, where a person died after being stabbed.

Separate Stabbing Incident

That earlier incident, which resulted in a fatality, reportedly began with a robbery by a group of North African individuals in the Sant Antoni neighbourhood. The assault escalated into a fight a few streets away, where one of the alleged perpetrators was fatally stabbed by a minor. The individual responsible for the fatal stabbing has been arrested, and the Mossos d'Esquadra are investigating this as the second homicide in Catalonia in under 24 hours.
