Striking teachers in Catalonia blocked two sections of the Ronda de Dalt in Barcelona and Santa Coloma de Gramenet on Tuesday, 12 May. The action, part of the first day of 17 planned strike days, started around 6.39am, according to Europa Press.
The blockades affected access points to the Ronda de Dalt from the Nus de la Trinitat and Mundet in Barcelona. Additionally, the Gran Via de Barcelona was cut off near La Campana. These disruptions led to significant traffic queues, with seven kilometres of retentions reported on the Ronda de Dalt in Barcelona, as confirmed by the Servei Català de Trànsit (SCT) on social media.
Strike Action Continues
This industrial action marks the beginning of a series of strikes organised by teaching unions across Catalonia. The planned stoppages are scheduled between 7 May and 5 June, aiming to press demands related to working conditions and educational policies. The widespread nature of these protests is expected to affect daily commutes and school operations throughout the region.
Further strike days are anticipated to cause similar disruptions. Commuters are advised to check traffic updates and public transport information before travelling during the strike period.
