A secondary school in Tàrrega has rejected a Generalitat pilot programme to introduce plainclothes Mossos d'Esquadra officers into secondary schools. Two-thirds of the teaching staff voted against the initiative, according to local reports.

The institute's decision means it will not host undercover police officers on its premises, despite the regional government's efforts to enhance security in educational centres.

Staff vote against programme

The school's teaching staff, known as the 'claustre', expressed concerns about the programme. "We do not want to enter into this conflict, because although we do not have security problems, no one on the staff has spoken out against it," a source stated. The source added that collaboration is important and the measure would be worthwhile if it prevented a single incident affecting the educational community.

The Generalitat's pilot scheme aims to assess the effectiveness of plainclothes officers in preventing incidents and improving safety within schools. Tàrrega's institute is among the first to publicly decline participation, highlighting differing views on how best to ensure student and staff security.
