Two men, aged 20 and 35, were arrested in Tàrrega last Friday by the Mossos d'Esquadra after a violent robbery in Lleida’s Mangraners district. The case began when a woman had her gold chain snatched in Plaça Encarna López, in the city’s Mangraners neighbourhood.
The robbery happened just before 5pm. Police said a man approached the woman and forcefully took the chain from her neck before running off on foot. A witness then saw the suspect get into a vehicle that drove away. Another person tried to stop the car and had to jump clear to avoid being hit.
When officers arrived, they confirmed the woman had not suffered serious injuries. They also gathered evidence that helped identify the getaway vehicle, which was registered to an address in Tàrrega. For more local police coverage, see news.
Around 6pm, a patrol found the vehicle on Avinguda Barcelona in Tàrrega. Two people inside matched the descriptions given by witnesses. During the identification, officers found that the driver did not have a valid driving licence. A search of the vehicle also uncovered a large bladed weapon.
Both men were arrested as alleged perpetrators of violent robbery. The driver also faces a charge for driving without a permit and reckless driving. Police said both suspects have previous criminal records. They appeared before the duty investigating court in Lleida on Sunday.
