Tarragona province will send 40 Civil Protection volunteers to Barcelona this Tuesday and Wednesday for Pope Leo XIV’s visit, as part of a wider Catalan operation to support public safety during the papal events.

The Tarragona group comes from seven municipalities and is one of the largest provincial contingents in Catalonia. The Tarragonès area will provide 40 volunteers, the second-highest total after Baix Llobregat.

The city of Tarragona will contribute 18 volunteers. Vila-seca and El Vendrell will each send 10, L'Arboç will send eight, Roda de Berà and Torredembarra will each send six, and Calafell will be represented by one volunteer.

Civil Protection volunteers will give information and guidance to the public, assist attendees, and report incidents to the operational services deployed for the visit. The aim is to strengthen public assistance and emergency response during events expected to draw thousands.

The operation has been coordinated with the Mossos d'Esquadra and will also involve the Red Cross, which will provide logistical support. For more Catalonia-wide local news, see our news coverage.
