Tarragona will face major traffic disruption this weekend, 13 and 14 June, as the city hosts both Pride Tarragona and the European Triathlon Championship. Residents and visitors should expect road closures and delays in the city centre and near the port area.
The Pride Tarragona Festival begins on Saturday, 13 June, with a Fair of Entities and Services in Plaça Corsini from 10am. Traffic restrictions start in the afternoon, when a gathering for the protest march is due to begin at 6pm in front of the Monument als Herois de 1811. The march is scheduled to start at 7pm, go along the Rambla Nova to the Balcó del Mediterràni, and return to Plaça Corsini, where it should finish around 9pm.
Parking bans are already in force on the Rambla Nova, between Font del Centenari and Carrer Adrià, and on Carrer Sant Francesc, between Carrer August and the Rambla Nova. These restrictions run from 8pm on Thursday, 12 June, until 10pm on Friday, 13 June. For local updates, readers can follow news coverage on Catalan News.
The European Triathlon Championship will also take place on 13 and 14 June, with about 1,600 athletes from across Europe. The Port of Tarragona will be the main competition area, with Moll de Costa used for starts, finishes, transition zones and technical areas. Access and circulation limits will affect Moll de Costa, Platja del Miracle, Dic de Llevant and Moll de Pescadors.
The Guardia Urbana advises drivers and pedestrians to take extra care in these areas and to check access limits before travelling. People heading into Tarragona this weekend should allow extra time, avoid the busiest periods where possible, and use alternative routes to reduce delays.
