A Tarragona esports team, TLS, has been crowned Catalan champions of League of Legends after winning the LIOP Challenger final in Mataró on Saturday. The result adds another local success story to Catalonia’s growing esports scene.

TLS reached the final stage as one of four teams. Their opponents included Família Iogurt and The Mentals from Girona, and Dragons Gaming from Barcelona, all competing for the title.

After morning semi-finals at 10am and 1pm, TLS advanced to the grand final. The decisive match took place at 5pm, when the Tarragona side secured the championship.

The event was held at TecnoCampus in Mataró and was open to the public with prior registration. Visitors could use a large digital entertainment area with games including FC26, Fortnite, Just Dance and Mario Kart, plus a Formula 1 simulator.

There was also a commercial area aimed at gamer culture, manga and anime fans. The finals were streamed live on Twitch by Gamesports Electrònics, with commentary in Catalan.
