Tarragona city centre saw firefighters close part of Reding Street on Saturday after stones fell from a building facade near Plaça Corsini. The incident led to safety checks and a warning about possible further collapses.
The alert came at 12.35pm, when a person reported fragments falling from the facade. One fire crew attended the scene and remained there for about 90 minutes.
Firefighters inspected the building and confirmed the stones had fallen from a balcony. They also found the facade was in a deteriorated state, so they took preventive steps to reduce the risk to pedestrians.
The affected area was taped off to stop people passing through. Firefighters also told a nearby restaurant not to set up its outdoor terrace while the facade remained unsafe.
Emergency personnel also spoke with the building's residents' association president and informed them of the condition found during the inspection. For more local reporting across Catalonia, see news.
