Tarragona City Council will begin a new door-to-door collection service for garden waste next week in the city’s Savinosa, Cala Romana and Boscos neighbourhoods. The scheme is the first stage of a wider plan to extend the service across Tarragona.

The pilot is aimed at homes with gardens and is designed to improve waste management and recycling. The council says the initial rollout will help test the system before it is expanded to other parts of the city.

Residents in the three neighbourhoods will be able to place garden waste, including leaves, branches and grass cuttings, in reusable bags for collection from their homes. The council expects the service to increase the separation of organic waste and reduce the amount sent to landfill.

The new collection method will sit alongside Tarragona’s existing waste services and forms part of the city’s environmental policy. Further details on collection schedules and resident guidance are expected from the City Council.
