Tarragona Provincial Council approved a €75.8 million credit modification on Friday, 24 April 2026, significantly increasing funding for local councils and new projects across the Camp de Tarragona, Terres de l'Ebre, and Baix Penedès areas.
The measure will add an extra €15 million to the ImpulsDipta Plan, specifically to cover operational costs for all town councils and decentralised municipal entities (EMDs). This financial injection aims to strengthen local government functions throughout the province, according to the Provincial Council.
Additionally, the budget for grants addressing damage from severe weather and other exceptional events will increase by over €2.8 million, with plans to double this amount by the end of the year. This includes €225,000 for DANA storm damage repairs in Godall, €197,000 for landslide repairs in Santa Perpètua de Gaià, Pontils, and €100,000 for the consolidation and stabilisation project of Pratdip Castle.
Supporting Local Initiatives and Cultural Heritage
The credit modification also allocates funds to support various projects by local entities and councils across the province. These include €200,000 for purchasing land for a future heliport in Móra d'Ebre and €369,000 to aid COPATE's efforts against black flies and mosquitoes. Cultural heritage projects will also benefit, with €180,000 for phase three of the conservation of the modernist winery in Rocafort de Queralt.
Further funding includes €200,000 for the rehabilitation of the central nave roof of Tarragona Cathedral, a project led by the Archbishopric of Tarragona. The Fundació Pau Casals will receive €75,000 to support events commemorating the musician's birth. These diverse allocations show the breadth of projects receiving support.
Eclipse Events and Political Support
The approved credit also includes nearly €100,000 for projects and initiatives developed by local councils in anticipation of the total solar eclipse on 12 August. Examples include the eclipse observation days organised by Benifallet Town Council, 'Reus mira al cel' (Reus looks at the sky), and activities arranged by the town councils of Camarles, Montbrió, and Tarragona.
This credit modification received approval with votes in favour from the ERC, PSC, Junts, and PP groups, while the Vox group voted against the measure. The funding is expected to be distributed to the various projects and initiatives in the coming months, providing significant support to local communities.
