Tarragona was the focus of a large police operation on public transport in the Camp de Tarragona area yesterday afternoon, with three arrests and 269 people identified.

The joint operation, called Operation Kanpai, involved the Mossos d'Esquadra, Tarragona's Guàrdia Urbana, El Vendrell Local Police, the National Police and private security staff. Officers carried out checks at stations and on different transport services, according to officials.

Of the three people arrested, one had an active judicial warrant, another was detained on a police warrant, and the third was arrested for falsifying a public document.

Police said the 269 people identified had a combined total of 696 prior police records. The checks were part of wider prevention work across the public transport network in Camp de Tarragona.

Officers also issued 52 complaints, 50 for possession of narcotic substances and two for carrying bladed weapons.

Authorities said operations of this kind are intended to improve safety in busy transport areas and prevent offending on public transport. For more local reporting, see our news coverage.
