Tarragona will open two dedicated dog-friendly beach areas this summer, a first for the city. The fenced zones, known as Can Espai, are at Llarga beach and Miracle beach, and each covers about 900 square metres. They will be open from this Saturday.
The city said dogs will be able to move freely inside the fenced areas. Breeds classified as dangerous must stay on a lead and wear a muzzle, according to the local authority. The two areas will remain in place until 15 October, when dogs will again be allowed across the full beach areas.
Inside the zones, the council has installed showers for dogs and people, wooden walkways to the sea, benches and recycling bins. The Can Espais will be cleaned by hand every day, with machine cleaning two or three times a week, officials said.
The move gives pet owners more space during the summer season in Tarragona and marks a change from previous years. For more local coverage, see our news page.
