Tarragona will host part of the filming for Disney's new live-action adaptation of 'Tangled', according to reports. While Girona is set to be the primary location, the city in southern Catalonia will also feature in the production.

The film is a live-action version of the animated Rapunzel story. Teagan Croft will star as Rapunzel, alongside Milo Manheim, who plays the criminal seeking to change his destiny. Exact filming dates for Tarragona have not been released, but the Girona shoot is expected in mid-July. Other Spanish cities involved include Alicante and Burgos.

Girona Casting Draws Thousands

Thousands of people queued for over two kilometres in Girona on Monday to participate in the casting call for extras for the 'Tangled' film. The casting company aimed to recruit between 1,500 and 2,000 individuals for the shoot. However, the number of hopefuls far exceeded this target.

Some aspirants arrived at the Fira de Girona gates as early as 11am on Sunday, spending the night outdoors. By 6am on Monday, over a hundred people had gathered, with many more joining throughout the morning. The casting process involved completing a form with personal details such as name, surname, and date of birth, followed by a photograph for the database. Some applicants were also asked about specific skills to determine suitability for different roles.

Many hopefuls expressed their strong admiration for Disney's animated version of 'Tangled', with some having watched it multiple times in preparation. Others chose to attend dressed in medieval-era clothing, hoping to better match the characters they might portray.

Tarragona Province a Popular Filming Spot

This is not the first major production to choose locations within the Tarragona province. On 8 June, Salou will be a key setting for a film about The Beatles, directed by Sam Mendes and starring Paul Mescal. This film will recreate the iconic British group's history, transforming various Costa Daurada spots into 1960s cinematic backdrops.

Last month, the temporary employment agency Penélope organised a casting call for extras for the Beatles film. They sought women aged 18 to 35, of any nationality, without visible tattoos, to appear in bikinis or swimsuits.

Looking ahead, a further open casting will take place on Thursday, 30 April, for a period musical film set in classic Hollywood. This call seeks both extras and dancers, welcoming people of all ages and profiles.
