Campsites in Terres de l'Ebre and Costa Daurada, Tarragona province, received top honours at the ACSI Spain Awards 2026 ceremony held in La Seu d'Urgell on 16 April 2026, solidifying the region's reputation as a leading European camping destination.
The awards, presented for the first time in Catalonia as part of the 2nd Catalonia Campsite Congress, saw establishments from the Tarragona province win in more than half of the nine categories. This achievement reinforces Tarragona's position as a premier camping destination, recognised for its quality, innovation, and customer experience, and as the area with the highest concentration of such accolades in Spain, according to L'Ebre Digital.
Specifically, campsites in Costa Daurada and Terres de l'Ebre secured victories in five categories. Playa Montroig Camping Resort won for "Best Sanitary Facilities", while Càmping Ametlla in L'Ametlla de Mar was named "Best Hiking Campsite". Camping & Resort Sangulí Salou received the award for "Most Beautiful Campsite Pool", and Càmping Estanyet in Les Cases d'Alcanar was recognised as the "Most Dog-Friendly Campsite".
Additionally, three local establishments received honourable mentions: Tamarit Beach Resort, Càmping Joan, and Alannia Els Prats.
International Recognition for Camper Satisfaction
The ACSI Awards are internationally prestigious accolades granted by the Dutch organisation ACSI, which specialises in inspecting and promoting campsites across Europe. These awards are considered among the sector's most significant European recognitions, decided exclusively by the votes of campers who evaluate their actual experiences at the establishments.
For the 2026 edition, the voting process took place between September 2025 and January 2026, involving nearly 100,000 users from across Europe. This system makes the ACSI Awards a direct indicator of quality and customer satisfaction, further enhancing the value of the prizes obtained by the Tarragona campsites.
Catalonia's Growing Influence in European Camping
The decision to host the ACSI Awards ceremony in Catalonia for the first time, within the framework of the 2nd Catalonia Campsite Congress, underscores the region's increasing importance in the European camping sector. The congress brought together professionals, businesses, and institutions to discuss future challenges and opportunities, further cementing Catalonia, and particularly the Tarragona province, as a major European camping hub.
In parallel with the congress, the Catalonia Campsite Gala, organised by the Catalan Campsite Federation, also took place. During this event, Camping & Resort Sangulí Salou received a special recognition for its long-standing contribution to the sector's development and prestige.
Industry Leaders Praise Continued Investment
Joan Estrada, president of the Association of Campsites of Costa Daurada and Terres de l'Ebre, expressed great satisfaction with the results. He told reporters, "The ACSI awards are especially relevant because they directly reflect customer opinion. The fact that campsites in our province have won more than half of the categories confirms that we are the benchmark for camping quality in Spain and one of the main ones in Europe."
Estrada also highlighted the sector's ongoing commitment to improvement. He added, "These recognitions are the result of the constant effort by entrepreneurs to invest in facilities, innovation, and sustainability, and to offer an excellent experience to campers. We will continue working to maintain this leadership."
