Six counties in southern Catalonia face storm warnings this Saturday, 10 May, as the Catalan Meteorological Service (Meteocat) issued a yellow alert for intense rainfall. The affected areas include Montsià, Baix Ebre, Terra Alta, Ribera d'Ebre, Priorat, and Baix Camp.

The alert, level 1 out of 6, is active from 2pm until 8pm on Saturday. Forecasters expect more than 20 litres of rain to accumulate in half an hour across these southern regions. Cloudy skies will cover the country from early morning, with cloud cover increasing rapidly from south to north throughout the afternoon, according to Meteocat.

Weekend Weather Outlook

While Saturday brings the most severe warnings, rain and thunderstorms are also forecast for Sunday, particularly in Catalonia's interior. The minimum temperature will rise slightly over the weekend, with maximum temperatures remaining similar to current levels.

Sunday morning will generally see clear skies. However, clouds will start to form in the Pyrenees and Pre-Pyrenees from midday. More clouds will arrive in the western third of Catalonia during the afternoon. These clouds will bring rain, primarily to the Pyrenees and Pre-Pyrenees from midday, and to the western third of the country from mid-afternoon. Showers, accompanied by storms, are also expected in parts of the western third during the afternoon, though no specific warning for rain intensity is currently active for Sunday.
