In Roses, SOM Roses has named Joan Plana as its mayoral candidate for the 2027 municipal elections. The party says it wants to regain leadership in the town after winning the popular vote in 2023 but failing to form a government.
That 2023 result was blocked by a coalition agreement between Junts and the PSC, which kept SOM Roses out of office. The party now says the current administration has lacked ambition and has not moved key projects forward.
SOM Roses says the main issues facing Roses include housing access, community coexistence, public safety, service quality, sustainability and the town’s tourism model. The party is seeking what it describes as a broad, cross-cutting and open majority for the next term.
Plana said he accepts the candidacy with, in his words, the same enthusiasm, but with more experience, a stronger team and greater determination than before. He added that Roses needs to move forward again and said the town cannot afford another four years of neglect, improvisation and lack of ambition.
Plana has remained active in municipal opposition during the current term and has also been present at the Girona Provincial Council. For more Catalonia local politics coverage, see our news page.
The party says it wants to open a new political chapter in Roses. In 2023, it argues, most residents voted for change, and it believes that chance is still there in 2027.
