In Berga, Central Catalonia, Ripoll mayor Sílvia Orriols was booed during the Patum festival on 4 June 2026, as anti-fascist chants were heard in Sant Pere Square, one of the main spaces for the celebration.
Footage from the event shows Orriols at the festival while members of the crowd heckled her. Local reports said the chants of “anti-fascist” were clearly audible.
Orriols was later seen leaving Berga Town Hall, which is in Ribera Square, after the public reaction. The incident took place during the Patum Completa on Thursday, one of the festival’s main days.
Patum is a major cultural event in Catalonia and is listed by UNESCO as a Masterpiece of the Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity. It draws large crowds for its traditional dances and parades involving mythical figures.
