Unstable weather is forecast for Catalonia this Monday, with showers and thunderstorms expected across the region, according to meteorological models. This follows significant rainfall in the Pyrenees and Pre-Pyrenees areas on Sunday.
Thunderstorms on Sunday brought between 10 and 20 litres per square metre (l/m²) in minutes to areas like Berguedà, northern Osona, and Ripollès. Orís recorded 27 l/m² and Cantonigròs saw 20 l/m² by 8pm on Sunday. The Catalan meteorological service, Meteocat, has issued warnings for intense rainfall, with some showers potentially exceeding 20 l/m² in 30 minutes.
Showers are most likely in central and northern Catalonia, with precipitation reactivating in the north-east by midday. The Camp de Tarragona region may also experience more intense showers in the morning, with thunderstorms developing from mid-morning onwards in central, coastal, and north-eastern areas.
Temperature Recovery Expected Mid-Week
Temperatures will see a slight increase on Monday morning, with overnight lows not as cold as previous nights. Minimums are expected to be between 11°C and 13°C on the coast, and 6°C to 9°C inland. Daytime maximums will range from 20°C to 25°C, particularly in Ponent.
From Tuesday, more stable, anticyclonic weather will return. The atmosphere will become warmer and more spring-like, with many maximum temperatures reaching 25°C to 30°C in the pre-coastal and inland areas. On Tuesday afternoon, some localised showers are possible in mountain areas of the north-east, the Pyrenees, the Port massif, and northern Central Catalonia. These will be less intense.
By Thursday, temperatures could reach 34°C in Ponent and the interior of the Ebre region. Friday may see temperatures near 36°C in Lleida, while coastal areas will reach up to 26°C.
