Yellow Alert Issued for Andorra
The Andorran Meteorological Service has activated a yellow weather alert for thunderstorms across the entire territory, effective from 3pm on Sunday, 3 August 2026. The warning is expected to remain in place into the night. The alert follows the approach of a weakened weather front, which is also set to bring a sharp drop in temperatures compared to recent extreme heat. While the heaviest rainfall is expected in eastern areas of the country, storms could affect all regions and may be accompanied by hail or lightning.
15 Catalan Comarques on Alert
In Catalonia, Meteocat has extended its severe weather warning to 15 comarques, up from eight the previous day. The affected areas include the Pyrenees, Pre-Pyrenees, western Ponent and the Terres de l'Ebre. The comarques under alert are Alta Ribagorça, Alt Urgell, Berguedà, Cerdanya, Garrotxa, Noguera, Pallars Jussà, Pallars Sobirà, Ripollès, Segrià, Solsonès, Terra Alta, Vall d'Aran, Baix Ebre and Montsià.
Storm Movement and Intensity
Thunderstorms are expected to move from southwest to northeast, potentially reaching parts of central Catalonia and the eastern Pyrenees. The most intense rainfall could see more than 20mm of rain fall within 30 minutes, according to the Catalan Meteorological Service’s official warning page.
The storms may be intense but are expected to be short-lived, especially in mountainous areas.
Residents and outdoor activity participants are advised to exercise caution. The weather system is forecast to persist until Monday morning.
