Sant Cugat del Vallès is one of the main settings for Corredora, the new film opening in cinemas this Friday. The High Performance Athletics Centre, known as the CAR, appears in the story of Cris, a young elite athlete who leaves the tracks and the centre after a psychotic episode.

The film stars Alba Sáez and Marina Salas. It focuses on the impact of mental health problems on athletes when a career is interrupted, and uses the CAR as an authentic backdrop for that setting.

Corredora was first shown at the Málaga Film Festival and the BCN Film Fest before its commercial release. Those festival screenings helped build early interest in the production, which deals with a sensitive subject in elite sport.

The film’s release adds another screen credit for the CAR in Sant Cugat, a facility closely linked to high-performance sport in Catalonia. For readers following local culture and film coverage, see our news tag for more updates.
